AEGEAN 600 2022

Clean Regatta is the world’s leading certification programme for water-based events, administered by Sailors for the Sea, a nonprofit organisation that educates and empowers sailors and boaters to protect and restore our oceans and coastal waters. At Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC), we believe that we have an obligation and a responsibility to operate in a sustainable manner. We need to be part of the solution, enhancing the understanding of the global problem and making sure that we use the best practices to avoid environmental pollution of any kind. HORC creates and pushed forward significant environmental actions as well as seminars targeted to the participants, volunteers and employees involved in organizing the AEGEAN 600 Yacht Race, the actions one needs to take to protect the environment. All actions planned and accomplished were based around the organization’s point of reference, which is the Olympic Marine in Lavrion. Furthermore, HORC's Green Team became an Ally...

Lavrion, Greece -- 17 July 2022 – This year’s second edition of the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club’s (HORC) AEGEAN 600 has secured this race’s place among the world’s important offshore challenges. The complexity of the race course, the outstanding range of conditions, the excellence in organization and venue and the performance of the teams has now proven this race is now on every offshore sailor’s “bucket list.” “I am really happy we did this race,” said Gregor Stimpfl, owner/skipper of the Scuderia 65 HAGAR V (ITA). “This is the second time we competed, and we have experienced the organization to be excellent and supportive, and the race a perfect mix of fun and challenge. I place this among the best of the 600-mile races, and recommend this to everyone.” The HAGAR V team (shown above) collected armfuls of trophies on stage as overall winners of the AEGEAN 600 Trophy as overall IRC class winner, the Poseidon Trophy as overall ORC class winners, and the winners of...

Lavrion, Greece -- 15 July 2022 – Only two entries remain on the race course after 5 days of racing in the second edition of the AEGEAN 600, organized by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). These two are expected to finish tonight, well ahead of the official time limit of tomorrow afternoon at 1400 local time, exactly 6 days after the start last Sunday in this 605-mile race. One of these entries making their way west towards the finish line at the ancient Temple of Poseidon is Tim Wilson’s Holland 68 FOUR SEASONS IV (AUS, shown above transiting Santarini), entered in the Maxi Class. It may be ironic that a boat this size is in the back of the fleet, but this is an old design from the IOR era that has been sailed around the course with a reduced number of crew that would have normally raced this boat...

With the main axis of the windy Meltemi shifting west to buffet the shores of Attica now with 20-30 knot winds, almost all entries have made it across the finish and are safely ashore at Olympic Marine after this second edition of the AEGEAN 600, organized by the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). The Meltemi has been an outstanding performer this year, producing a Multihull course record of 53H 36M 02S for Adrian Keller’s Nigel Irens-designed 78-foot catamaran ALLEGRA and a new Monohull course record of 63H 02M 20S for the canting-keeled Elliot 52 RAFALE (GER) skippered by Philipp Kadelbach. This evening there are only four teams that remain on the race course making their way across the last long leg west towards the finish line set at the ancient Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio. Among these is one last class leader: Andrejz Rozycki and Adam Skomski’s JPK 10.30 PNEUMA (POL) who lead the IRC and ORC Double Handed class. Yesterday they were in a fight with Gerasimos Petratos and Evi Delidou sailing their Dehler 30 AETHER (GRE), shown above in...
